The Mayflower Story
The Mayflower was a merchant ship that sailed from Plymouth England to America in 1620. On board the Mayflower were an estimated 30 crew members and 102 passengers seeking religious freedom and a better life in the land of opportunity. After a treacherous 66-day voyage across the Atlantic Ocean, the passengers found land and headed north to settle in what is now known as Plymouth, Massachusetts.
The origins of the passengers on the Mayflower can be traced back to both England and the Netherlands. It’s estimated that more than 30 million people can trace their genealogy back to the passengers and crew members on the Mayflower.
