Location: Remote

The Manager, Interface Development (Consumer) is responsible for managing all activities of the Consumer software development team including:

  • Providing necessary guidance and direction for projects/tasks, resolving team and individual needs, monitoring productivity, and evaluating performance.
  • Managing the consumer software development process, working directly with Consumer developers and leadership to ensure that the software is developed in a timely manner, within the budget, adheres to company standards for design, quality, and reliability.
  • Managing the development resources and development projects that support NewsBank’s Consumer market. This includes, but is not limited to, the web applications GeneologyBank.com, ObitsArchive.com, NewsLibrary.com and NGPA.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for assessing and ensuring the performance of one or more developers of any level (Junior, Senior, Lead). Includes but isn’t limited to setting direction, creating motivation, providing feedback and coaching tailored to individual needs, performance improvement plans (PIP), termination, and the merit increase program.
  • Responsible for the growth of one or more developers, to bring them to higher levels of contribution and leadership. Includes but isn’t limited to the Individual Development Plan (IDP) program.
  • Responsible for assessing staffing and skillsets and recommending changes (hiring, training, research, outsourcing, etc.).
  • Responsible for hiring and onboarding new developers, as necessary.
  • Responsible for ensuring successful day-to-day operations and enhancements of one or more product lines. Includes but isn’t limited to defining and improving development & operational processes, ensuring coverage and continuity, defining policies and ensuring compliance, and influencing priorities.
  • Responsible for building effective relationships with stakeholders and peers, as well as representing team & product needs in significant and / or cross-team initiatives.
  • Responsible for assessing web technology trends and making informed recommendations on investments (adoption, exploration, training, consultation, etc.); as well as championing and directing critical areas of change (such as cloud, security, CI/CD).
  • Staying up to date with software technology trends.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervisor / manager for a development team of six employees: Sr. Software Developer (Backend), Sr. Software Developer (Frontend), Full Stack Developers (x2), eCommerce Developer, Front End Developer.

Qualifications

Highly skilled software development manager with proven track record of developing teams and individuals that deliver high-quality products on time and on budget.

  • Has at least 3 years’ experience as a technical manager, driving the performance and operational efficiency of one or more teams.
  • Has at least 5 years’ experience in the software development field.
  • Has practical development experience with web application design and architecture.
  • Works and communicates effectively with developers and development leadership.
  • Works extremely well with other related teams, both technical and non-technical – User Experience, Customer Service, Marketing, Quality Control, Technical Operations, etc.
  • Has expertise with JavaScript/TypeScript development ecosystems, specifically Node.js, React, and associated tools.
  • Experience in a B2C e-commerce setting is desired.
  • Experience with large scale information retrieval is desired.
  • Knowledge or experience using Drupal is a plus.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Analyzes the work efficiencies of current pricing positions, learning how the department operates
  • Tolerance for complexities of pricing structures and origins, along with willingness to think outside the box
  • Ability to build and maintain strong cross-functional and cross-team ties to influence colleagues and management
  • This position plays a pivotal role to support decision-making regarding new product launches, forecasting, and product sales strategies by instituting defendable pricing designs
  • Strong partnership with our Senior Vice President, Chief Sales Strategy Officer for the News Division, to drive pricing strategy
  • Responsible for the pricing of new and existing information-based products on an ongoing basis, learning current processes and improving them
  • Lead pricing efforts of all complexities and of several types of renewals and prospect sales
  • Provides relevant reporting and analysis, including competitive analysis, in support of pricing process
  • Prepares and analyzes product pricing and assists in the preparation of management presentations, business reviews, key findings and recommendations
  • Assists with pro-actively identifying new market opportunities and risks arising from competitive, regulatory and other internal and external factors
  • Conduct market research to identify trends in the industry and competitors’ pricing strategies
  • Gathers data and performs analytics to properly validate models and documents assumptions that provide the basis for pricing and profitability measurement 
  • Provide guidance and counsel on all aspects of cost proposal preparation
  • Facilitate/lead pricing reviews with upper management and coordinate with senior staff to determine pricing structure and strategy
  • Leads or participates on special projects needs

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Required ability to think strategically and analytically
  • Preferred product pricing experience – 5+ years of experience in a pricing role is desirable, but not required
  • Desire to grow into a management role in the future
  • Ability to interface efficiently with senior management: strong partnerships are a cornerstone of this role, especially with Sales strategy
  • Strong Excel skills
  • BA/BS from a 4-year college or university in Finance, Accounting, Math, or related

Qualifications:
